A lathe typically consists of a precision machined bed or base with a drive mechanism and headstock at one end and a supporting tailstock at the other. The workpiece is help firmly in the headstock and rotated rapidly around its own axis. A suitable machine tool is then brought to bear against the workpiece which cuts the required profile. The horizontal lathe is used extensively in high precision machining operations and is available in a wide range of sizes and designs. The unique alignment of the stock makes it possible to perform cutting tasks on oversize, heavy objects that would be too short for turning with traditional, horizontal lathe machinery. While traditional lathes were used to create turned parts for many years before the invention of the vertical turret lathe, the addition of the turret made it possible to mass produce parts with more accuracy and speed. Function The horizontal lathe can be used to cut cylindrical shapes from square stock or cut decorative profiles such as those seen on table legs, lamp stands, pens, and chess pieces. Precision engineering parts such as engine components, spherical joints, medical equipment, and aircraft parts are also turned on horizontal lathes. As a matter of fact, almost all steel and wood products which feature shoulders, tapers, grooves, or other intricate profiles can be produced on these machines. Even hollow cup shapes can be turned on a lathe. Steel or engine lathes consist of tail and headstock assemblies on either end of a central bed. A steel lath headstock is equipped with jaws which secure the workpiece instead of a spur spindle. Enginehorizontal lathe tool assemblies consist of a saddle which spans the bed and is fitted with a compound rest and tool post. This whole assembly is automatically advanced along the lathe axis by means of a lead screw driven by the lathe motor. The steel lathe tool bit is secured in the tool post and is brought to bear against the workpiece by means of lead screw cranks. This setup allows for extreme precision in the cuts made while ensuring safety and control when cutting hard steel stock. Features These lathes are suitable mainly for turning internal and external cylindrical, conical and other swing surface as well as various metric, inch, and module and diametric pitch threads. They can also be used for broaching oil grooves and keyways. There are also following features: 1. The side wall of bed is constructed with double-rib Plates, and the shape of internal ribs is of box type and bevel ribs combination. The rigidity is higher than that of ordinary lathes. The precision is stable, and these lathes can carry out strong force cutting. 2. On apron, there is a device, operated by a single lever, used for rapid traverse of the carriage. Spindle's braking and rotating direction change is controlled by hydraulic system, or by hand operation, all up to user's choice. 3. The saddle guide way is glued by "TSF" soft belt wear-resisting materials. 4. On user's demand, we can equip the lathe with automatic feeding mechanism .The top slide can be used independently for turning of short cone. In combination with longitudinal feeding , it can also turn long taper surface.
